The progressive rock band Spirit, one of my favorite bands, appears to have been consigned to near-obscurity. Although they enjoyed some commercial success in the 1970s, including the hit single "I Got a Line on You," the band never achieved the same level of fame as other progressive rock bands such as Yes or Genesis. Even today, the band is rarely played on classic rock channels. At most, when the name Randy California is mentioned, it rings a bell with some people. This photo album attempts to visually retell the band's best album, "12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus," in 12 frames.

What a brilliant idea! I remember Spirit's early psychedelic stuff ("Fresh Garbage" comes to mind), but their progressive output must have passed me by... My prog years were dominated by Jethro Tull, Yes and Greenslade. The photos in your "album concept album" have a very cool vibe. Well executed!

@anttihoo Many thanks - your support and comment is much valued. You are quite right - Spirit was more "psychedelic stuff"....but I consider Psychedelic Rock as a sub genre of Prog. It took me a long time to find photos which fit to the lyrics and titles of the album....it is a matter of a very subjective selection, in some they were ideal for me - some (in retrospective) I would see different if I were to select today....but as it is in photography....it shows just a moment.....

@rolfmg It's the subjective interpretation that makes projects like yours interesting. (By the way, I wasn't being dismissive with "stuff". Late sixties psychedelia, garage and freakbeat are A Huge Thing for me.)

@anttihoo i did not take it as dismissive at all. I challenged myself in regard to the genre. Even though spirit did not produce many albums, many styles were represented; from Jazz Rock (Elijah) over psychidellic to even Pop Rock (darked eyed woman). So difficult to put them under one particular genre. For me this Band is underrated though. But our conversation morivated me to play the entire vinyl collection of them this morning.....(-:

@rolfmg Sounds good! I really should check them out properly... I know I have several of their tracks on various genre collections, but I don't think I've ever listened to a full Spirit album – the way they're meant to be appreciated.
