Distressing Expired Negatives: An Album by Spannerino
3 16 Share TweetExperimenting with black and white films is a huge part of Lomographer spannerino and their analogue routine. Recently, they uploaded these haunting and intriguing shots of visibly manipulated negatives from an expired roll of film.
Expired film rolls mean new opportunities for analogue experimentation. Unexpected shifts with color and grain quality make the daring analogue lover excited with possibilities. Spannerino took the opportunity to go further with his expired black and white roll and distressed them in seemingly various ways. Some usual methods of distressing a film’s formula are through chemical and/or physical processes.
The photographs are from the albums April 7 and April 14.
The images vary from portraits to scenery, phantasmagoric and mystifying in how they are composed and distressed – of chemicals, visible folds, wear and tear of the negatives. Spannerino used a Pentax Spotmatic and an expired roll of Ilford HP5. Some of the negatives were developed in Rodinal.
